چکیده

We investigate the self-localisation problem of an adhoc network of randomly distributed and independent devices in an open-space environment with low reverberation but heavy noise (e.g. smartphones recording videos of an outdoor event). Assuming a sufficient number of sound sources, we estimate the distance between a pair of devices from the extreme (minimum and maximum) time difference of arrivals (TDOAs) from the sources to the pair of devices without knowing the time offset. The obtained inter-device distances are then exploited to derive the geometrical configuration of the network. In particular, we propose a robust audio fingerprinting algorithm for noisy recordings and perform landmark matching to construct a histogram of the TDOAs of multiple sources. The extreme TDOAs can be estimated from this histogram. By using audio fingerprinting features, the proposed algorithm works robustly in very noisy environments. Experiments with free-field simulation and open-space recordings prove the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

Indoor Positioning Based on FM Signals and Wi-Fi Signals

With increasing user demands on Location-based Services (LBS) and Social Networking Services (SNS), indoor positioning has become more crucial. Because of the general failure of GPS indoors, non-GNSS navigation technologies are essential for such areas. Utilizing signals of opportunity is a promising alternative navigation method providing adequate geo-location. Wireless Local Area Networks (WL...

Wireless Sensor Networks - Smoothing algorithms for RSSI-based Device-free Passive Localisation

In recent years, the use of wireless sensor networks has increased. This is due in part to the increasing miniaturization, decreasing costs and the identification of real-world scenarios where sensors can be deployed. Device-free Passive (DfP) localisation is the identification of a person without the need for any physical devices i.e. tags or sensors. A DfP Localisation system uses the Receive...

Survey on localisation in communication networks

This deliverable presents a literature survey of localisation in communication networks. In a first part, use of communication networks for location estimation is presented. Two families of methods do exist: fingerprinting and geometrical techniques. Cooperative positioning is one possible enhancement. In a second part, use of location information to improve radio resource management, specifica...

Active Speaker Localisation and Tracking using Audio and Video

This thesis is concerned with the problem of tracking active speakers using audio and video data. Particular focus is placed on the task of tracking the current active speaker in a lecture room environment using multiple cameras and multiple microphones. Conformal Prediction for Indoor Localisation with Fingerprinting Method

Indoor localisation is the state-of-the-art to identify and observe a moving human or object inside a building. Location Fingerprinting is a cost-effective software-based solution utilising the built-in wireless signal of the building to estimate the most probable position of a real-time signal data. In this paper, we apply the Conformal Prediction (CP) algorithm to further enhance the Fingerpr...
